I have a home on Maryland's Eastern Shore and have found gas without ethanol in some Talbot County (example Easton- WaWa) and south stations up thru last fall, when I moved my Kitfox to home in the Fl Keys. I use either a 30 gallon rolling boat transfer tank from Boaters World in the back of an SUV or a 100 gallon metal fuel tank with 12 volt pump from Tractor Supply Co. in the bed of my pickup to transport the gas.
I have boats and have had phase seperation whereby alcohol in car gas joins with water in boat tanks and settles out to the bottom of the tanks. My outboards will not run on the alcohol-water settleout but it can be drained off leaving what I understand is just base stock gasoline. However I have read that the remaining base stock gas has a lower octane rating than the original rarting posted on the gas pump.
Years ago an Amoco scientist involved in the EAA auto gas STCs suggested I use 25% 100LL and 75% premium auto gas to boost the auto gas octane for use in my old high compression Corvettes. The same principle might work in this application.
I am not sure that the above will work and don't know if anyone has experience doing it.

Wash it out with water.
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>In a 20 gal plastic/steel barrel put about a gallon of water (steel is better it can be grounded).
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Add ten or twelve gallons of gas.
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Stir well.
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Let stand twenty minutes to be sure all the water has settled out.
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Siphon the gas off the top of the barrel into a suitable container through a Mr. Funnel or a chamois/felt to fuel your plane.
Doing this will also remove any dust or other particulate that may be in the gas. The remaining gas will be a few octane rating points lower than the original gas so try a small quantity in your engine first to make sure the engine doesn’t ping especially on takeoff. The water you drain off is very corrosive but bio degradable... don’t use it on your lawn or flowers. Unless you want your grass to come up half cut. J
You can put a drain in the bottom of the barrel (would have to be on a stand) to drain the water off before siphoning the gas. Down side is treating gas at other strips. Dragging the barrel around can be a problem.
Ethanol really becomes problematic at concentrations of 10%. Lower if you leave gas in your plane. If you are out and have to use contaminated fuel for one afternoon I’ go ahead but only in relatively warm temperatures. On returning I ‘d drain my tank treat the fuel and put it back into the tank to dilute any contaminated fuel left in the tank.
If you premix your gas the ethanol won’t damage your tanks but the chances of phase separation, where the eth, water and oil separate from the gas, is higher. When that happens to mixed gas there is a heavy white-grey sludge that won’t burn that will appear in your fuel system. To add insult to sludge the gas floating on top of the sludge is perfectly good to use.

Mixing will work, but remember, in a two stroke engine the gas passes through the base of the engine before going into the cylinders. The main bearings in a two stroke engine are lubricated by the gas (lead if present) and oil in the fuel. They are roller bearings and the lead in the gas can plate out onto the bearings which, in turn, can cause them to fail... According to Mr. Murphy only at the worst possible time.
This is why additives don’t work for 100LL to be used in two stroke engines.
Using a 100LL mix in your old ‘Vettes is a good idea. It doesn’t have main roller bearings and lead won’t bother it at all. In fact you may want to try straight 100LL just make sure your cars don’t have the catalytic convertors. Also make sure you save it for use on the race track because there is no road tax on AVGAS and local authorities may take a dim view on using it on public highways.

Answer is NO! Except in certain states which have mandated this requirement. It seems that MD and VA have not!

Re E-10 auto gas
As I understand it, certain counties in Maryland (near DC and Baltimore) are
required to dispense ethanol blended auto gas in order to strive for better air
quality so the state can continue to receive federal transportation funding.
Counties outside of the requirement may still be able to dispense either.
So stations outside of the requirement area may or may not have ethanol blend.
Buyer beware.
I find that labelling indicating presence of ethanol may not be posted on the
pumps and I routinely test unless I happen to be able to talk with the station
manager. Do not trust the counter clerk to know, test it yourself if in doubt,
its easy.
I have noticed labelling showing up on some pumps in the Florida Keys, so
ethhanol blended fuel is reaching this area, despite the problems it creates
with boat engines and fuel systems. There may be more boats than cars in the
Keys and lots of snow birds who leave boats unused for months inviting
condensation and atmospheric moisture absorption into the fuel leading to
settleout. I would hate to run low on fuel out on the ocean beyond anchor
depth and switch to a tank that was loaded with settleout. Power boats turn
into "sail boats" and with prevailing winds out of the NE I might get to visit
Fidel and his buddies in Cuba.

Too bad you can’t drink it... They put something in it to make it non drinkable. From what I understand you can’t distil the crap out to make it palatable.
Before putting it in your car consider... you will have to use around 1.4 gal of eth to go as far as you would go on 1 gal of gas... The idea its cleaner is only if you ignore the CO2 given off in the fermentation process (it does burn cleaner)... it takes more than a gallon of diesel to grow the corn, ferment the alcohol and ship one gallon of eth to your station then you are closer to 50% the power of a gallon of diesel.
A professor, I believe from M.I.T.,was on the Discovery Channel. He said spectrum analysis of burning ethanol shows an organic compound being given off that really eats the ozone layers. I’ve been trying to find the program again to document the details.
I really can’t see why anyone would want to burn ethanol. Use it to clean your printer instead.

Tom, OK, That would be the method Noel explained to use on a bigger scale to "wash" alcohol out of gasoline and siphon the gas off the top or drain the water off the bottom.

Noel, growing corn to produce ethanol and use fossile fuel in the process of making it is pure madness and the result of a panic measure of the US government; everybody surely must agree with that.
But burning what we grow instead of fossile fuel that was meant to recycle millions of years ago, make sense. Here, in Norway, we are considering producing at a very slow pace ethanol from waste, such as biologic household waste and timber industry. The energy to produce it then must be taken from another non fossile source such as hydro-electric energy or ... ethanol itself.
I recently read that in Africa there is a tree that I unfortunately forgot the name of, which produces a fruit that is not proper to human consumption or anything else. Yet the tree grows in very dry climate and the fruit can be used to produce ethanol that can help those countries to produce their own fuel thus reducing their foreign debt mostly due to the import of crude fossile oil.
So, the answer to our need for energy is not to forget ethanol but not to panic and plan a viable solution there where it works best.
Cheers,
Michel Verheughe

Michel:
I think you would be surprised to find there are many people who think
ethanol production is god's answer to fuel shortage. One of the problems is
there is so much contradictory info out there. One has to dig deep always
asking the question is there an ulterior motive to info.
The cases you describe do not entail removing thousands of acres of the
world's prime farm land to produce ethanol. I'm in full agreement that a
farmer with a small still can make his own hooch for pennies a gallon using
scraps from the back 40 but when he ramps up for commercial production the
costs rise exponentially. To add insult to injury the costs of dependent
(pork, chicken, cornflakes etc.) foods also rise.
I can see where limited ethanol fuel production of otherwise useless
materials is a big plus. Production quantities will probably be fairly
small and concentrations of ethanol in gas would also be very small. It
would just be a way of getting rid of unwanted substance with the added
benefit of higher octane rating. The efficiency of production on small
scale would also be a lot higher than the U.S. model. In short it's a
different wheel on a different cart.
Why not use this slow process ethanol for consumption.. Let's face it a
litre of whisky brings a higher price than a gallon of E100. That could
stimulate a country's economy.

Michel,
Yes, madness indeed. Unfortunately in the US today energy policy, like pretty much everything else, is driven by short term political rather than sound scientific or economic considerations.

Michel, Right on! Burning your food for energy when you have oil is about as dumb as you can get. You have to be economically ignorant not to see the dedrimental repercussion to our food prices and supply. But, then most of Americans are, and sadly enough to say that inculdes our politicians that are mainly just concerned with getting reelected. We have a few good politicians, but damn few.
