I have decided to replace the standard gear in the 601XL kit with the Grove option so that the brake lines are internal (gun drilled).  On the Zenith website, the gear is priced at $765 US$.  I will sell mine for $665.   This is the gear only and not the other fittings.

 

I am located in Toronto, Ontario Canada and ironically so is the gear!

See the link below.  They are not cheap, but lighter and gundrilled if you want.  If you want to go this way, you will also need to buy from Zenith up in Midland, an adapter set for about $200.

I just looked at Grove's website.  The price on the 601 gear is $1180 and from what I can tell, the gundrill is an additional $150 more.  Am I reading something wrong?

Thanks for the info Paul.  I too may be interested in the Grove system.  Although I may be getting a little ahead of myself, I am just making the main spars right now.  Thanks again for the info.

The gear is narrower than the standard kit so you need a welded filler that Zenith will gladly sell you for far too much!

You are reading correctly.  I am selling my inexpensive zenith gear for the expensive Grove gear.....why?  1) weight (you save approx 12 lbs) and for the lack of break lines outside of the gear.  I plan on doing a lot of unpaved runways, and having the brake lines hanging out concerns me.
