Hello Lightning List members,
The following may come as a surprise to some of you, but since the word has gotten out, at least in the Shelbyville area, I thought I may as well let all of you in on the news. Once someone gets a photo, it doesn't take long before it shows up on some public media or the internet and then the world will know the so called surprise announcement that Arion has been trying to keep secret so that they could make big news at Sun-N-Fun. So attached you will find a photo of the new 2008 Lightning Demonstrator which clearly "lets the cat out of the bag". As I am sure you all realize, all aerial photos shown to date have shown the new demo in the normal configuration. This photo shows the big surprise. It was made by an aerial photographer who was hired by Arion to provide a photo for their new brochure. Unfortunately, while the photographer was away from his shop over the weekend, a worker there gave the photo to the local newspaper thinking that this photo was supposed to be part of a package of Arion Lightning photos that they had for an article on Earl Ferguson's world record flight. Besides Nick in 324AL, you will see me in 32BZ. I was there to monitor the initial test to the new configuration. I can report that all went well. In fact, today I finally got to fly two sorties in 324AL as part of the 40 hour test profile. At some time in the future (after the test phase) I will do a detailed flight evaluation for the newsletter. I am looking forward to that, but until then, take a look at this neat photo and the surprise that Arion was planning to announce at SNF.
Blue Skies,
Buz

Wow Buz...a retract Lightning...!
Man, that baby sure looks clean, doesn't it?
ALMOST as clean as a nicely faired tail-dragger Lightning would be!!
IMHO.....

A very good April fools joke. I was too big of a ID10T to figure it out until someone else pointed that fact out. Before I was enlightened, I thought you had just removed the landing gear just because. So, you got me Buz.

Sorry, Jim, but it was all in the spirit of good fun. The Arion group is one big fun family. Just ask "Tin can" Mark and "Moostang" Mike. When I got the photo shopped pic with the gear erased I just couldn't pass up the opportunity since it was 1 April.
Blue Skies,
Buz
