I started down the path of buying a flying RV and decided to go another route.  After traveling to see a few aircraft and coming away very disappointed, something I found helpful was to ask the owner/builder to take photos of the “worst areas” of the aircraft and send them to me.  This helped a bit in my initial screening process.
