Ron,
Not installing wheel pants so I might be able to retain mobile furniture doesn't strike me as a
good enough reason. I believe I will finish installing the other one, thank you.
Possums,
Harbor Freight selling wheel pants!!! Come on!! We both know those wheel pants on your plane
are actually helmets that Olympic Ice Skaters wear! And you didn't think we would catch that.

Mike- Your efforts are appreciated. Keep us updated, as your solutions may be just different enough to give the rest of us ideas. Keep the photos coming, too. When do you anticipate starting the covering process?

Bill,
Thanks for the encouraging words. As I said the other day, I'm about finished with all the "modifications", so I should be able to get back to the regular construction of things like fabric and such.
Regarding the fabric..the fuselage covering is virtually finished. Only a couple of very small items to tend to. The tail feathers were completely finished, BUT...but, I finally found the dimensions of the horizontal stabilizers on an Xtra. Seeing as how I had the original triangle shaped hor. stabs, I had to rip off the new fabric, and completely rebuild them to the new larger (and stronger) Xtra style. I have to recover them again, hopefully within a couple of days.
Once the hor. stabs are finished, all that remains is the main wings, elevators, and flaps, to be covered.
It's kind of funny. It seems that finishing the wings is a big hurdle for me. I have so many things just waiting
to install once the wings are done. All Lexan is cut and ready to rivet. My custom-made side swinging doors are done. I've had my engine & prop mounted and running years ago. My wing gap seal has been finished for 8 years. If I can get past the wing covering and paint, then things should really start looking good.
My avionics package may take awhile to complete. At the moment, I have to install the following: Dynon D10A
EFIS, Icom A200 com radio, King transponder, AK-450 ELT, Air Gizmo panel dock for my Garmin 296, and a few other items like engine gages, intercom, etc.

Mike,
Here's my understanding of the history on the xtra horizontal stab.
The xtra and the classic both have the same size tail feathers now. There were a few of the first xtras sold with oversize horizontal stabs. It was a hedge against the wedge nose of the plane causing a pitch change at different AOA's. It turned out to be not needed so Kolb went with the same design for both planes. There's nothing wrong with the larger stab, it was just found to be unnecessary.
As for your wheel pant mounting. It was obvious to me that you were not finished at the time the pics were taken. I've seen [and remember]some pics you posted of the rest of your work. It's been my intention to make a page on my site showing how my wheel pants are mounted but it's still on the never ending list on things to do.
