http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2008/pdf/08-1127.pdf

Lots of discussions on the Fly-Ul site about the hour of under the hood time for sport pilots flying in planes with a VH over 87 Knots. Other than maybe some of the new $100,000 + sport planes, how many sport planes have the instruments you would need. Not many I would guess. ????? Jim Chuk Avids Kitfox 4 Mn

That would be proposed change #5.

5. Require 1 hour of flight training on the
control and maneuvering of an airplane
solely by reference to instruments for
student pilots seeking a sport pilot
certificate to operate an airplane with a
maximum airspeed in level flight with
maximum continuous power (VH) greater
than 87 knots calibrated airspeed (CAS)
and sport pilots operating airplanes with
a VH greater than 87 knots CAS

Notice it says "of AN airplane...." it dosen't specify that it must be LSA or sport pilot eligible.

A Cessna 150 would cover that issue.

Steve,
Thanks for finding these. I hope this list only applies to
pilots and instructors, and not to aircraft, otherwise it's a
disappointment. I really thought they'd clarify the weight issue. And
what about that altitude restriction! I guess Lynn will have to get
the portable O2 system!

Well, by golly, they must've read my mind......"Sir, I'd like one
bottle of oxygen and a Sectional chart for Leadville, Colorado,
please....and take your time on the delivery, as the rule is not in
place yet." But I can hope. : )

The 10,000 ft limit is being addressed in the new revision that is being routed through the system. It will be 10,000 ft MSL or 2,000 ft AGL which ever is higher.

You can read about the proposed change at http://www.eaa.org/news/2008/2008-04-11_sport_pilot.asp
