Commanders-
I thought I’d run this one by the group to see if anyone has any answers- or knows where to look for answers…
Our 685 was in California for a wing spar inspection- and upon return we have found that the flaps will not travel beyond half while in flight. On the ground, full range of travel is available, but no matter how slowly I fly- they will not move beyond half travel in flight.
The hydraulic system is producing about 1100PSI and both EDPs are able to maintain that pressure independently- so I don’t think it is a system load issue. (Gear operates fine- etc… )
This airplane does not like to slow down without the extra drag when coming down the chute- so I’m hoping someone has some hints or pointers… My shop hasn’t found anything obvious.
Anyone have any ideas?

Robert,
I'd have two guys, one at each flap, pushing up and backwards against the flap, simulating aerodynamic pressure, and then lower the flaps. If the track is worn, out of alignment (if that's possible), or loose that it prevents the flap from traveling all the way down, it might show up during this exercise. It's a wild guess but that's what would worry me most.
Nico

Do they go to full after you land? If so, check the actuator for bypassing do to a failed O-ring.

Morning, Bill!
The flaps do go full travel as the airplane slows after landing. (To test this I landed at 130knots and had my eyeballing them so he could call out when they started to move again…it happened around 90 knots…)
You happen to know of a good procedure to check the actuator for bypassing? Spent some time in the maintenance manual- and the only way I could envision was to remove and send it for overhaul… Obviously I’d prefer to do it locally if possible…
Thanks, Bill

It sounds like the "O" ring in the flap actuating cylinder is bypassing fluid. It is an easy fix. The "O" ring is std and the labor should be a couple of hours or less. jb
