as to what to try.
Maybe someone can help here?

You're faced with the classic troubleshooting problem.
There are lots of places where a gross disconnect
can occur to produce the symptoms you cite. Fortunately
it's not an intermittent problem so your aiming at
moving target. Sorry I cannot be more specific.
