I've unfortunately never flown the 601xl, but one of the things I
keep reading is that it's very sensitive in pitch. Since it's now
recommended to limit elevator travel, would it be possible or
desirable to change the control geometry a bit do so there ratio of
stick movement to surface move is higher? It seems like this would
mitigate the sensitivity a bit.

The elevator authority is there, but it's not excessive. It's part of
what makes the landings fun because you can hold off the nose gear and
grease it.
I wouldn't change a thing. Those that complain about it either haven't
flown or have not learned to fly the aircraft. It's the slower speeds
that the
elevator is a best feature of the Zenith.

some of the sensitivity in the pitch control system is simply the low stick force per G in the XL.
While you would have to give up the electric trim to do so, it would be a very simple matter to change the system so that the tab is both trim and anti-servo. The anti servo feature is a very common method used to augment stick force and centering forces.

Hi everybody
I have flown an XL only once, but was very happy with the accurate and direct sensitivity of the elevator. It is rather like flying a glider and not comparable to the "sluggishness" of a C-172. But if you are or get used to it, it is really great fun and by no means uncomfortable.
My XL elevator has a Ray Allen servo trim, but I will install this add-on-module that slows the movement of the servo (also provided by Ray Allen). The trim servo was a little bit too sensitive in my opinion.
I am really looking forward to getting my XL in the air. I fly Katanas (Diamond), C-172 and A-330/340s regularly at the moment, and the XL is somewhat comparable to both the Katana and the Airbus (and no, it's not like flying a C-172), as its control authority is enjoyably direct!
Cheers Martin
