How do I test an EGT and CHT sender w/o running the engine? Before I wreck something I thought I should inquire. I could not find and help using the search.
Thanks.
Jim

Hi Jim,
You can call the probe mfg and get the specs and use a meter on them or put them in a known hot area (like boiling water at 212F) and check your gage or check them against another known good probe/gage.

Jim,
The data for resistance versus temperature is available at
www.sso-usa.com
You'll have to look thru the website to find it. You will also find a chart that lists the number stamped on the sensor and gives the part number, its temp range and threads.
912 & 914 come with VDO 300 deg sensors.
300 deg sensors vary from 322 to 18 ohms. 120 deg F is 322 ohms. 200 deg F is 76 ohms and 220 deg is is 57 ohms. Measure what the resistance is at room temp - should be 322 or more. Put the sensor in boiling water - should be between 57 & 76, close to 65 ohms.

Temperature sensor resistance graphs are also in the Rotax 912 Heavy Maintenance Manual.
