I just got my Tiger back from the paint shop and am considering leaving the
steps removed. Does anyone have any data on speed gained?? I'm also
interested in any ideas for closing out the holes in the fuselage where the
steps mount.
Thanks,
Dave McKnight

Don't you know: Every mod you do is worth "up to" 30 knots more airspeed.
I've heard anywhere between none to 3 knots improvement in airspeed.
I think, what it all comes down to is, if you want to take them off (leave
them off), then do it. Of course, I say that to the women I meet also.
Fletcher sold me a couple of pieces of aluminum, very neatly trimed and
pre-drilled, that were, apparently, specifically made to close out the holes.

My steps have been shortened and the speed with them off is the same as
with the shortened ones installed....132 kts at 7T Pressure altitude, +10,
70% and about 300 under gross.
2 four hour flights compared.
Looks like they were shortened just enough so that the weld is inside the
fairing (10 inches +/- removed). Not as easy to find with the toe when
gettting out but lots easier than steping up to the wing without them when
getting in. I think it looks better too.
