Hello

  

 I have a Model IV Speedster and want to seal the  fiberglass weave inside the cowl.  I'm getting close to finishing my kit  and almost ready for paint.  

  

 Can anyone recommend a product that will be thick  enough to seal it so it can be wiped clean.  I've been told there is a  product available that is water based that can be used.  One concern I have  using an oil based product is the durability if fuel is leaked onto  it.

I’ve used a good epoxy primer inside fiberglass cowlings - they are fuel-proof and have demonstrated survival at cowling temperatures. I decided not to smooth the fiberglass weave by filling it with paint to avoid adding weight. I’ve found it easy to clean them with a spray-on cleaners and a little water rinse.

We've  been using Spray-Bondo to fill and smooth light imperfections prior to painting.  It is a product similar to automotive body fill but in a liquid spray able form.  I doubt that it would completely fill the fiberglas weave but it would help to  smooth out the surface. There are numerous references to these types of product  by doing a Google search.
