Well, I tried everything that was suggested with varying results.  So, 

I said to heck with it--it is not shorting out or creating a hazard 

and will most likely not be noticed since trimming and talking on the 

radio at the same time is unlikely to happen.  Reconnected all the 

wiring as it was originally and wouldn't you know--the damn thing 

worked perfectly, no movement of the LED at all.  Tried it again a 

couple days ago and still perfect.  Like I said--queer electrons.
