Hello
It's been a while so I thought that I would report in.
I managed to return to Australia from Canada, along with my family and C-FAJW (now Aus registered Recreational 19 - 3507).
I am hangered at Aldinga (approx 20km Sth of Adelaide) and enjoying the amazing coastal scenery of the Fleurieu Peninsula.
The plane made the trip with no problems and after about two mths grounded the rego and my Australian endorsement were completed. I ended up getting my Aus Rec licence which allows day VFR and passenger carrying endorsement.
I hope all are well and assume that Michel is still posting great Norwegian fotos.

Good to hear you've resettled in Aussieland, Gary. Not many Norwegian photos lately, I haven't yet started long distance flying but this week-end, I'll ferry a Zephyr ultralight from Czechia to Norway. Mind you, that bird flies about twice as fast as my model 3 so the photos will maybe be a bit blurry ...

Gary,
If I remember correctly you had a 582 in a Lite squared. I see you now have a Jaberau. I currently have a 503 Rotax in my classic 4 and am always on the lookout for ideas on an engine to upgrade to.
I would be interested in hearing your results and a comparison of the jaberau to the Rotax you had before.

Great to hear from you Michel - one thing about that jabiru motor: When I was in Canada flying at -20 deg the temps in flight were perfect, when I returned to Aus and started flying at +40C I still found the temps were fine. Strange as I though I would have to do some additional ducting work.

Hello Tom,
yes I sold my last plane in Canada as I actually expected to return to Australia about a year earlier. About a week after I sold it I found I had another 18 mths before returning so I immediately started looking for another Kitfox. I have been really impressed with the Jabiru 2200 as it is very quiet, great on fuel and powerful. In climb performance it's not much better than the 582 due to the small diameter wooden prop but in cruise it is quite fast and very economical.
The service available from Jabiru in Australia is amazing as I have a friend here in Adelaide who is a factory trained and authorized jab mechanic - he knows the engine inside out and has been able to answer every query I ever had. This was a little different in Canada where I basically had to solve my own problems.
All in all I'm very happy with it
Some specs:
Classic 4 MT Wt 650lb
Jab 2200 80Hp
Norm Climb Just me at (180lb) and 75ltrs fuel (+30Deg C) 700 - 800ft/m
Cruise 2700 RPM 94 mph
Fuel Burn (at) cruise 13 L/Hr
Sound Great!
Regards
Gary

Thanks Gary, this helps. The Jaberau is high on my short list of engines for my kitfox.

Hi Tom, I am in Lewiston and Have a Fox and a brand new Jab engine, mount and prop if you decide to change. They are awesome, more like a standard aircraft engine. I was going to install in mine but due to recent surgery I am getting out of flying. If you are interested contact me at vcmi60(at)tds.net (vcmi60(at)tds.net) . The engine is still in the box. Jerry

I've come to the same conclusion, Gary. While the 582 was a great engine, it changed much from winter to summer. With the Jabiru, I see the same temperatures and pressure all year round. That is: the oil pressure can get very high when the engine starts in the winter. But once warmed up and in the air, everything is the same, winter or summer. Maybe it's only an illusion but seeing all the dials at exactly the same place gives a feeling of confidence.
Cheers,
Michel Verheughe

Hi Dave - Yep, all set now. When I get a chance I'll post some videos on UTube so you can take a look at the scenery. Recreational aviation is alive and well down here and the support from RAAUS (Governing Body) is amazing. Medical requirement is a current drivers licence and training / licensing has developed along the line of gen Aviation with endorsements applied for: tail wheel, Passenger carrying, floats etc etc.
It works well and cleans up the vagueness that exists in the USC system.
I'm sure there are no Ultralight pilots carrying passengers in BUL aircrafts etc, or without Instructors rating in Canada - and of course nobody fibs about their medicals? but this way everything is legal and insurance coverage is assured so all in all it's a good system.
regards
Gary
