I am at the point of installing the wheels, I have purchased 6" wheels & axle kits from Great plains. The plans show welding a 3/4" bolt into this square plate and bolting them to the main gear. My question is this seams a bit minimal for carry most all the weight. Would it not be better to weld the plate and bolt together, drill the 3/4 " hole in the main gear and then bolt it on using the 4 bolts all from the back side of the main. Then you could bolt the brake calipers on the wheel side of the gear as normal using the same 4 bolts.
Has anyone done this? Seams like it would provide extra support.
