Hi Charles C
6nbsp;
I am new too E 6nbsp; But I did research for the vortex generators and slats removal E 6nbsp; If you still want ALL the STOL caracteristics of the 701 E 6nbsp; Do not remove the slats E 6nbsp; But add vortex generators under the elevators E 6nbsp; 6nbsp; My two cents E

6gt; This is a fairly new list C and I am a very new 701 builder (three weeks) so I don’t find any info in the archive’s about the vortex generators and removal of the slats E Can someone point me in a direction to get some education about this? <?xml:namespace prefix = o />

6nbsp;
6gt; Regarding the discussion on test flying a 701 C I am still pretty close to that process and this would be my advice:
6gt; 1) 6nbsp;Get current in something like a Cessna 150 before hand E 6nbsp;I did 70 solo landings in a C152 before step 2 E
6gt; 2) 6nbsp;Get some time in a 701 E 6nbsp;I was able to get a couple of hours of right seat flying time in a 701 before my test flight E
6gt; 3) 6nbsp;Taxi your 701 around as much as you like C to get comfortable C but I wouldn 7t do much 2high speed 2 taxi testing E 6nbsp;It just starts to fly and you are in an awkward situation and there is risk of damage E
6gt; 4) 6nbsp;Choose an airport with a long runway surrounded by open fields E 6nbsp;Initial test flights from small 6nbsp;backyard fields with trees around has proven to be a bad idea E
6gt; 5) 6nbsp;Make sure you are getting somewhere around 5200rpm on a static runup E 6nbsp;On my initial test flight I aborted the takeoff because I was getting about 4700 rpm with full power E 6nbsp;I repitched the prop and on the second try got 5200 E
6gt; 6) 6nbsp;Carry some power into the flare when landing E 6nbsp;With an 80hp Rotax C I currently carry somewhere around 2 C500 to 3 C000 rpm into the flare E 6nbsp;This power will cover you until you develop the 701 technique that Roger Lee was talking about E 6nbsp;Go to the 2flying with Gus 2 website and look at the first flight video to see what happens if you don 7t have the power or the technique going for you E
6gt; 7) 6nbsp;As soon as possible C remove your slats and put the vortex generators on your wings and elevator E 6nbsp;The airplane is much better behaved when landing C the STOL performance is the same C and you pick up 10mph in cruise E 6nbsp;My slats went up on the hanger wall at about my 5th hour of flight time E 6nbsp;
