Hi,

I always does 24 turns, first 6 very slow to let possible oil in cylinders a chance to sip out. And the first 12 with a light hand, after 12 turns I prime 5 times and let the prime fuel help us flush away the last oil. Then I do the rest of our pre flight. Just before entering the cockpit I prime new 5 and another 6 turns light handed DO NOT USE FORCE. I jump into cockpit and strap my self in and let the primed fuel get between 2-4 min rest, then prime 1 for each 10  Celsius below 100 celsius EGT. Pump fuel pressure and hit the start button. With this procedure I have had no miss starts and the engine has not taken any damage. But remember that overpriming can cause hyd lock as well, so it is important to wait the 2-4 min and let the fuel wapour.

Best Regards
Havard Dale

True.....but......crank turing around 6 times is not completely true....don't forget the prop makes less turns than the crankshaft (1,54 if I'm not mistaking...)...i.e. the crank makes only about 4 turns.....

Fly safe!

I believe Ron is ASSUMING you have a 2 blade prop. If you have installed a 3 blade prop that changes things a bit.

12 blades turns the crank around 6 times . Each piston goes up down the bore at least twice for the complete four stroke cycle. Real world I have never went more than four before I hit the lock.

How many blades does it take to ensure that you've cleared all the cylinders?

I've heard to pull 6, 9, and 12.
