EGT temps vary with probe position, exhaust pipe leakage, etc. It is the Relative number that means something. Unless the engine is equipped with a 9 point EGT, I favor leaning to the Rich side of of peak because there may be a few cylinders leaner than the indicated temp.
Another factor is that a supercharged radial has good fuel distribution: there is a lack of "roughness" like flat engines when lean of peak ... everything can get quiet real fast.
