My Model IV 1050 was originally a Denney/Skystar model using plans from ~ 1991. It shows the Pitot as an aluminum Z-bend glued to the 7th rib. That tube was broken and I bent up a replacement from stainless tube which is a little more forgiving of repeat bends. Before I finish placing this I have some time and room to change things if there is an advantage. Is there any removable or more desirable arrangement for the pitot than the original design?

I didn't like the bent-tube device that came with my kit, so I bought
the L-bend, flange-mounted model from Aircraft Spruce, part #15135. I
glued a small block of wood to the side of the rib, notched to allow
the rib-cap to sit flush with it. This allowed for the flange to be
attached, with screws, onto the rib-cap after the covering is
complete. I added an inspection hole cover nearby to allow for
attaching the tubing together inside the wing after covering is
complete.

That was one of the alternatives I thought of, and easy to do right now. I
also thought I might go to a straight tube probe extended through the
leading edge out near the wing tip like a friends Colt has.

My only thought on this is the old mud dauber trick of filling any hole they
find with mud. I did have the tube filled once. It was real handy to just
untighten the nut and remove the lower "L" and clean it out. I can't
imagine how it could be done if the "Z" bend unit was glued in place with
the black tubing attached with the zip ties as in the manual.

As far as the mud daubers go, I bought some of those red "Remove
before flight" streamers, that have little slip "socks" that fit over
my pitot and gas cap tubes. Good reminders, and they look cool....and
I'm a sucker for cool.
"Remove before flight" is a good reminder, but I need the back side
to read "...and install after"

When I saw this thread, I thought good, cause I'm about to install the pitot tube also on the Kitfox 4 and was giving it some thought also. I had thought about a double tube setup, one pitot, and one static port as some other planes have. Is that not another alternative and if not, why not? Thanks, Jim Chuk Avids, Kitfox 4 Mn

Avionics shops use nitrogen to dry out pitot and static lines. I figure disconnecting the pitot line from the ASI and running a bit of nitrogen through it would work.
Sure glad we don't have those mud daubers here. We do have flies we call "stouts" They are part of the Newfoundland air force. Smile and in ground to air combat they’ve never been beaten. Sometimes black flies or mosquitoes will get impacted in the pitot tubes... They are just an inconvenience though.
