With thoughts of a future CJ-6 purchase, and after reading about the state of the M14 inventory, I can’t help but to wonder about the future for the HS-6? Is this engine also heading the same direction as the M14s in price and availability?

Thanks,

Mike Ryan

Mike,
"Heading" would infer that they have yet to increase in price, which is not the case. HS6A first overhauls are getting very hard to find and when you do find one you'd best be ready to pay 17 to 18K, which is a very good deal considering what they are now selling for in China. What impact the earth quake damage at the factory will have is yet to be seen, but I have been told that it is shut down for repairs. The third overhauled engines which have been passed over for the last few years are still available for 8 to 10K, but who wants a engine with 1500 hours on the bottom end?? I have heard many say "before I'd pay 18K for a 285 I'd pay 20K for a M14", IMHO 20K 0 time M14's are a thing of the past and don't forget that you still have to buy a prop (at) a min of 3500.00, an exhaust (at) 1750.00, gills or shutters (at)2,000, a engine ring 250.00 and them put the whole thing togather. With all this considered plus the state of the economy, staying with the 285 suddenly makes a lot of sense. The smart buyer will zero in on those CJs with a fresh or low time engine, there are a few of them out there, you just got to shop around.

No. that aircraft is still in production by the Chinese. They are still producing the engines for those aircraft. Doug and Barry can confirm that.
