Can anyone give me any insight into the proper propeller selection for an O-200? I would like any input on not only a stock aluminum, but ground adjustable and in flight adjustable units. Thanks.

I am looking at the Sensenich ground adjustable. Been flying with the Sensenich wood for 500 hours and pleased but would like to be able to tweak the performance. You might not find any absolute specific prop recomendations in that the Lycoming and Continental Kitfox installations are not very common. I did not choose aluminum trying to save precious weight on the nose of a heavy engine airplane.

You could not give a wood prop for any engine, there are several very good reasons that manufacturers have stopped using wood props. You get balance problems due to moisture, they are extremely fragile, and most of all the efficiency sucks. The prop is the fastest moving part of the airplane, the tips move around 500 MPH, and the wood prop has to be built much thicker and draggier than is desirable to make up for the weakness of the material.
Performance wise, you would be better off to use a modern prop. If the aluminum is 4 pounds heavier, you would only have to add just over 1 pound to the tail. Performance wise, saving 5 pounds by using a wood prop is a very poor tradeoff when you are giving up a lot of thrust and efficiency.

Perhaps, Mike. But with my Jabiru and direct drive, I must have a wood propeller. It's a simple two blades fixed pitch, I have used it for 250 hours, it looks good and ... if performance sucks, I wouldn't know; I am not after performance but safety and simplicity.

550 hours on my wood prop, and I certainly haven't been sitting
around waiting for the moisture to dry out. : ) If they are not
'modern" somebody better tell Sensenich, because they are 10 weeks
behind in making props to fill orders.
The Jabiru engine "requires" a wood prop to dampen out torsional
vibrations, so I've been told, although the newer composition props
are also being used on Jabirus, but definitely not metal.
