I just purchased a radiator scoop to dress up the looks on my model 4. The instructions say to mfg a series of .032 alum straps with nutplates and attach to the tubes under the floorboards OR use long bolts and go thru the floorboard.
It seems that everything is attached to the floorboard and it would be a major project to remove them.(rudder pedals, control sticks, etc.) My inclination is to use long bolts but I am concerned about the resulting appearance of the bolt heads, etc penetrating thru the floorboards. I would like to make it look nice.
Has anyone done this on a finished aircraft and if so maybe a better method?
  Thanks!

Hi, Dick,

I had the radiator scoop on the previous Model IV, It was also a late
addition as well and mounted it through the floorboard with fender washers
under round head bolts (screws). I had a piece of carpet over the
floorboards, but in the new project, I will likely just let the screw heads
show.

Lowell,
Thanks for your reply. I will probably attach the scoop with the long bolts. Yodaone, thanks for the great pictures! They will be very helpful for my installation. Please send more pictures as you go thru the installation process. You have done very nice work.
I have also installed the wing cuffs on my aircraft. It was a  mystery how to attach them but I finally figured it out. I can't say as I can see any difference in airspeed but they look nice.(but then I have those fat tires)

Are those items (radiator scoop and cuffs) available from Kitfox, or is there another supplier?

Thanks, Dick,

Your airplane looks great. For some reason I don't recall the sunburst
design on the horizontal stab. Looks good in person, though.

I'm not a moderator, nor do I play one on TV, but it might be a good
idea to offer up the address in our first response, instead of making
the original poster have to ask the obvious next question....it would
save a few postings...and I've been guilty of it too. : )

John, What can one expect on adding wing cuffs , rad scoop and or gas cap fairings.

I have a scoop on mine and I have a mold to make more but I not offering them. I find that my cowl mods conjunctionion in fact lowered the operating temperature more than anything.

I would like to see proof that speed gains on any of the above have been had.

My site has the cowl mods that worked well. The Kitfox cowl dumps hot engine air right into the radiator as originally made.

Installed the scoop and fastened it to the fuselage using three stainless screws. I did not remove the floor boards.

Chose this hardware because it provided the perfect spacer.
Hammered/flattened out the the spikes, drilled the holes, and installed.

Rad scoop pic look great guys.

Now the questions -- what did you gain or lose in speed and coolant temps ?

Did you seal the rad to the scoop? Makes a differance you know in cooling.
read my previous posts on cowl mods......... just look at that design how the hot air from the engine dumps directly into the rad..........

Yodaone,
Thanks for the pictures. You have done a "super deluxe" job on that scoop. It looks great ! I will pattern my installation after yours. My only question is(and you guessed it) where did you get the scoop to floor fasteners. That is a nice clean installation.
