HomebuiltHELP is happy to announce that the 2nd part of Building your CH601XL fuselage DVD video is now available!

This is the followup DVD that demonstrates building the 601XL fuselage where Part 1 left off. Please visit http://www.homebuilthelp.com/CH601XL/fuselage2.htm for more information and ordering. We are hard at work on the remaining 601 components! (Wings, tail, canopy)

You keep producing these videos right after I DON'T need them. Thanks for the support. Smile

Out of nothing but curiosity why did you decide to release them in pretty much reverse the normal building order?

Hi Gig,

I guess... "normal building order" is in the eye of the beholder!

I find no prerequisite skills that are gained by building - lets say - a pair of wings or H tail and then finding a place to store and trip over them for months while the fuselage is built. Also, with the fuselage finished first, you have the mounting points in place to confirm the proper fit of the H tail components and wings before riveting...

Having said that - I will say that if you are not building from a video or getting help when building, then I would leave the fuselage last at it is clearly the most complex structure of all... but not if you are watching someone else show you which part goes first, what to rivet first, etc. IMO, the challenge with the fuselage is not any tricky riveting, cutting, etc, but rather the sequencing of the build process. That's what Gus' expertise ( www.flywithGus.com ) provided in these fuselage videos.

There are many opinions/points of view regarding this topic... I have no problem with any of them... this is just my 2.5 cents!

Thanks for asking!

Jon

My .02 cents

One reason I also build first the fuselage in my projects, is to have the chance to work in the instrument and engine instalation, mean while I work in the wings and empenage.

When I say "normal building order" I mean the order in which the Zenith build manual suggests doing it which is also the order Nick suggested when I asked. I'd also add to that the Zenith manual is much lighter in step-by-step instructions as it gets further along.

The tail section shows virtually every step of the process and the wings section assumes you learned a few things along the way. The fuselage section assumes you learned a LOT of things already.

This is one of the reasons I posted that I hate that you came out with the videos after I needed them. I really could have used them on the fuselage.
