Bob, Gilles and all,

sounds great this idea. I am very interested in a Bell Intercooler. My
project is not an Europa, nor a MCR,(it's a modified HB207 ALFA, as you may
see on page 26 in the Spruce Catalog). The intercooler is the same, only the
connections may vary.

For those interested, I will post more detailed pics of the intercooler kit
on my builder web site this weekend. And will scan the intercooler

instructions and post them as well.

Bob, Gottfried and all,

We installed a Bell intercooler in our Rotax 914 powered MCR four seater
project.
Gerhard Schruf proved very helpful and provided tailored caculations.
The model is not the same as that shown on Bob's website.
We put emphasis on a clean inlet and outlet for cooling air, and are
achieving 60-70 % efficiency. The airplane has been flying for a year, to
our satisfaction. The performance is about the same as a Europa.
Gottfried has some additional info.

Garry,

Intercooler means the same as Turbocharger: Performance
The Intercooler - when well designed and mounted brings you an increase in
power of:

Take Off: +7% = 123 HP
Max. Continuous Power: +6% = 106 HP

You can see in the Rotax Owner Manual up to which altitude you have the
power.

Rotax gives you the option for modification with an Intercooler -(acc. the
manual)- but all the work around the Intercooler (design, mounting,..) is
your job - You have an Experimental aircraft. Not all guys want an
Intercooler. Price is on of the reasons why Rotax don't have an Intercooler
on his list.

What are the benefits of the intercooler? What do you get in return for
your money, labor and weight? Why didn't Rotax design the engine with an
intercooler?
