Hi folks. I have been enjoying reading the list for about half a year and finally starting to build a kit CH701 in Whitehorse, Yukon. Super exciting as it seems the 701 was designed specifically for bush flying up here.
Appreciate any advice on skinning stab and elevator when using straps on the flip side. Having difficulty getting tight fit around nose ribs without excessive pressure on straps. As well, seems difficult to get accurate layout with all the hold down strapps and strapping in place.

My advice (I'm an 801 builder), don't try too hard to pull them down
too tight. IF you do strap it down tight enough to completely conform
perfectly you will inevitable find that you also formed ridges in the
skin over the ribs. I use ratchet straps, ratchet down to the point of
contact an no more.
The number of ribs is too low anyway on the Zenith to get a really
nice wrap no matter how hard you try, so no matter what you're
going to have some rivet dimples.

My experience has been if Zenith says to use four ratchet straps then 8 is about the right number. Look on the bright side, when ya get through you will have plenty of straps and at 10 bucks for four it is cheap insurance..On the 801 the leading edge skin can be lethal if it slips out of the nest....

Yeah you can buy a lot of straps for next to nothing at places like
Menard's, Home Depot, etc. You'll find after the initial wrapping
after the skin has bent once that it's a lot easier on second/third
wrappings.
Carefull when you loosen those straps too, there's a point of
looseness where it basically just slips out of the ratchet. That
happened to me with a wing leading edge, and I almost took
to wearing a diaper after that

I believe I'd be more concerned about the nose skin trailing edge lineup
with the spar cap. Nose ribs primarily form the nose skin curvature, rather
than providing structural rigidity, which the skin curvature provides. Keep
the straps positioned right over the ribs, use at least 7 straps, pull them
up evenly and gradually, and you shouldn't have any trouble.
