Hi Guys:

Many of you have been a part of my journey to build my airplane and learn to fly it - I truly appreciate all of the encouragement and tips. The airplane is performing well and I have completed all of my training. I solo'd two weeks ago and my cross-country solo was completed last weekend.

Next week I take my check ride with an examiner. For those of you that have been through this can you email me some ideas of how to prepare? Are there any "lessons learned" you can share with me that you wish you had done in advance to the check ride?

Thanks C

[quote]If possible know the area of the flight beforehand and pick out good landing spots for your simulated engine-out. Be prepared to justify your choice. -- Craig [b]

The oral part wasn't bad at all. Was told to prepare for a cross
country (examiner chose destination). Did a lot of review of
regulations in the AFR and AIMs. Also took time to review the aircraft
POH and checklists. In the oral exam, the details of the
cross-country including a lot of minutiae (sp?) were asked especially to
verify knowledge of how to interpret the Sectionals. He asked me a
few questions about meteorology, weights and balances, flight planning
and the Sport Pilot licence, it's limitations, etc. I handled it as a
simple conversation between us including details my instructor had
mentioned during flight lessons. Went very smoothly and with no
problems. I told him that I understood his position and mine, so
let's begin.

The checkride was just like a pre-solo review with no surprise
"problems" (like pulling the throttle back or being too gossipy. We
did all of the required manuevers, communications, emergency landing
preparations (down to about 250 feet). My DPE did not talk during the
flight (other than ordering specific manuevers or questioning my
knowledge of safety, from preflight to landing and tie-down. I knew
that he was especially interested in flight safety above all and in my
attitudes when PIC. Since the cockpit was sterile I talked thru each
manuever describing it's purpose and how the manuever was performed and
any possible errors that might arise if done incorrectly. Frankly I
just wanted to be sure that he would find my completion of the manuever,
and my knowledge of it of some value.

Like others have said, handle it like just another pre-solo review. A
very pleasant experience.
