You guys flying 914's, what are you seeing on your normal operating range for EGTs? What is the max set at by Rotax? I would think this information would be in the manuals but I have yet to find it. Any personal experience would be great. I ran my 914 yesterday and had temps as high as 1530 around 4300 rpm.

I posted this on the Rotax engines forum but no replies...I figured this forum would have better results.

I found the information needed. It is listed in a document provided on www.rotax-owner.com called "Understanding the 914". It lists the max EGT as 1742 degrees F and a normal EGT of 1652 degrees F. Seems a bit warm but I am used to the 1350 degrees of a Lyc.

Darin, The warning and alarm limits for 914 EGTs given by Rotax in the
Flydat manual are 880 & 900 degrees Centigrade respectively. Mine usually
run around the 700 mark with the rear pair being perhaps 60 deg hotter.
880C. is 1616F, and 760 is 1400F so you haven't exceeded limits but seem to
be running hotter than I do. But on the other hand if you are just doing
ground runs you aren't getting much in the way of cooling, & new engines
also run relatively hot until they have polished all the rough surfaces off
a bit. Regards, David Joyce, G-XSDJ

Hi David

As a matter of interest do Rotax publish a limit for turbo inlet temperature
and do you monitor it?

Pete

Hi Pete
Rotax allow a max inlet temp of 72c (160F) or 88c (190F) depending on
the serial number of the TCU, I have never exceeded 50C so far with
normal cruise being about 35C
Regards
Ivor
