<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> We are planning a fly in at Stanford Field St. Anthony, Idaho. We are planning for Sep. 20th 08. We hope to see lots of you Kitfox and Avids at the site. We are hoping to have Auto Gas and Av Gas available. Certified - Experimental and anything else that flies will be welcome.

More to come later - just wanted everyone to have a heads up.

The elevation at Stanford Field is 4,966 feet above sea level. Stanford Field, was originally built by Leland W. "Jinks" Stanford and his wife Margaret Stanford, both pilots and lifelong residents of the area. Leland and his wife started flying in the 1930's, and were in fact taught to fly by the same instructor at about the same time. During WWII, Jinks trained new pilots. After the war, he and his wife started building the "Airport" and main hangar. Jinks was a crop duster (a very hazardous job) and he was also a postmaster in St. Anthony. In the 1980's Merrill "Mutt" Rose, the mayor of St. Anthony, designated the airport as "Stanford Field" in memory of Leland W. "Jinks" and Margaret Stanford.

In obtaining the historical information from Penny Stanford, the daughter of Jinks and Margaret, she mentioned how her dad would come home with hands bruised and bleeding from working so hard on building the airport, but he was always optimistic about what they were accomplishing. Such is the example of visionaries that leave us with great legacies.

Special thanks to Penny Stanford for the historical and personal information provided for this part of the tour, it is much appreciated.
