Must have. . . Hmmm. Well, I would consider wings a must
have. Otherwise it's not really an airplane. Control surfaces are
probably a good idea, though you could make a weight shift Kitfox.
You've already got the engine, so I guess you might as well use it,
and the landing gear too, though of course you've got it backward.

As others have already said, what's your mission? I've seen
everything from completely stripped, minimum weight, off-road
aircraft, to fully equipped IFR machines with glass panels,
autopilots, and leather interiors. Generally speaking you trade
weight for comfort and convenience, which means you trade short
field, climb, and altitude performance for cruise comfort and weather
capability. I've seen empty weights for 5-7 series aircraft anywhere
from 750# to 1050#. That's 300# of "stuff" someone thought they
needed. (If you include 4s you bring the empty weight down to below
600#, but much of the difference is structure.) Tell us what you want
to do and those like minded folks will be able to respond enthusiastically.
