I think it was Aviation Consumer that did a report on the ADC system many years ago. IIRC, it didn't lower the temps noticeably. The theory is that the oil lines to/from the remote unit act as radiators, as does the remote housing. If you wrap your hoses in Firesleeve, that mitigates the heat exchange there. Nor do you probably have outside air blowing on those hoses or the housing for cooling. There doesn't appear to be a large mass of oil in their remote housing, so heat transfer there is also questionable.
As far as filtration, if this is that thinnish element, IIRC, it's filtration was poorer than a regular filter. Some time after that article, the company started offering a remote mount for a regular oil filter. (If they hadn't already.)
Here in hot Phx, we reduce power to 2600 RPM when it's safe to do so after climb out. Doesn't sound like much, but makes a disproportionally large difference in climb temps. Whether that's due to reduced power setting, slower oil movement through the cooler, both or other, I don't know. But it works for us. Given the power to weight ratio of the Glasair, we don't miss the minor loss in HP.
BTW, I've discovered K&N Racing filter elements. 20 micron filtration, 500 lb burst, square nut and safety wire hole on end, AND a rubber flapper valve to keep oil in the filter. MUCH faster oil pressure on startup. (Seems to hold oil for a week. After a week, I notice the dipstick level jump a quarter quart.) Less money than an Aviation filter - about $10 from Checker Auto or Summit Racing. HP2003 is what we use on a Lyc O-320. They need a male to male thread adapter that I bought a long time ago from Spruce, but can't find in the catalog anymore.
