Gary is right, Jim. The key to a good Jabiru installation is to make a good cooling chamber around the engine. One of the common mistake is to make the oil cooler inlet too big as the aim is to create a high pressure above the engine and a low pressure under.
Since I moulded my own cowling, I made the hole for the oil cooler very small. Then, after a few trial flights, I made it larger. Actually, the last adjustment was made in the hottest day of that summer, just to keep the oil temperature where it should.
Another thing is to make a big 'lip' at the outlet under the cowling. That creates a low pressure area that really sucks the air out of the cowling.

I tried the Skyfox cowling on my model 3 but I have a cowling / glareshield / firewall / panel that is a perfect section of a circle, where the Skyfox cowling is a flatter curve on the top. If I was to use the Skyfox cowling, I would have to reshape all of the above. I went then to modify and mould myself the fore end of my old cowling.

.. Incidentally, I am now back at home and ... after all your encouragements on this list I have decided this morning to be the first man with a pacemaker in space! ... well, at least: back in a Kitfox. Smile

Cheers,
