Few more .02 worth,
I have seen very little cracking on this cosmetic filled part of the RV10 when the proper fillers are used. If you feel with your hand over the top of the plane in front of the windscreen it is fairly wavy over the ribsn and down the sides. Most people are not trying to HIDE the rivets and make it a composite plane.........even though the entire canopy and cowl is composite, they are trying to blend it in and make it SLEEK just as you do at the rear of the canopy where it meet the empenage. Again, there is no right or wrong to HOW this is done, only a better finished aircraft to the eye. As far as weight, most are adding more in the avionics area or the interior that would be less important IMHO.
