Dear UK Europa owners.
I have been refused the sale of Mogas at a Tesco petrol station in West
Sussex, on the grounds of using a clearly marked 20 litre fuel canister.
When I queried this, I was shown a West Sussex County Council Trading
Standards notice setting out that 20 litre containers are not acceptable
although 10 and 5 are as long as you only buy 15 litres at a time.
Has anyone else come across this problem?
In 2 + years of flying my Europa this is the first time I have had any
problems. I have used several Tesco and Shell garages without problem and
indeed filled up with 60 litres at Tesco Winchester only 2 weeks before.
I have contacted Trading Standards to seek dispensation and the chance of a
discussion on the subject.
I have also contacted AOPA.

coming up with riddiculous ideas in order to keep themselves in their

Hi! Steve
Tesco at Market Rasen refuses to supply in 25litre plastic drums.
I just go to my local garage and he welcomes me with open arms
especially for cash transactions. I think you will find that the law
defines metal cans and you can only keep 2 gallons maximum on your
premises unless in a vehicle.
I would think that being their forecourt they set the rules. When I was
refused at MR I commented "You don't want business!" Whch just got a
shrug of the shoulders!

Hi Bob

That's ok then there are currently 40 litres in the boot of my car and thus
they must be legal as long as the cans stay out of the garage.

Regards

Pete

PS That's '10 gallons (ish)' and 'trunk' for those over the water!

Lame Bureaucracy at work. One could skip the gas-petrol cans and perform a
vehicle-to-vehicle transfer by filling up the family auto, and use it as the
transfer tank using a pump of some sort. Of course, there could be some law
restriction there too \Neutral

Just for those of us "over the water".....what's your price of fuel these days? Here in California we are sitting as one of the most expensive for fuel at $3.98/gal. for unleaded 86 octane regular and about $4.35 for the 92 octane stuff. Diesel goes for $4.60/gal. But then again, we can get as much as we like?

In australia prices are roughly (conversion to UDS done) $4.82 / gal for 91octane and about $5.60 / gal for 98 octane and about $6.00 a gal for diesel
and thats in the no state tax state (queensland) the other states can add about 30c a gallon in state tax.

Just as an aside to the price has anyone here put a hydrogen cell on their car to reduce fuel consumption. I am tinkering with one now for my car
and am thinking this may be good for the plane as well.

Its just gone down in our area; it is GB Pound 1.12 per litre (so at 4 litre to your small gallon) 4,48 per US gallon or $8.90 ish. It has been as high as GB Pound 1.23 a few weeks back. It seems to vary round the country buy as much as 10 pence per litre.

The sad thing is that most of it is tax

Unleaded mogas has just come down a bit over here and now is ‘only’  around £1.20 / litre which approximates to around $10 US per imperial gallon.  Diesel is around £1.30 / litre.    Think yourself lucky!!
