I masked everything that was close and also covered with wet rags anywhere
nearby. The (MIG) welding wasn't a problem. The doubler was a piece of
4130 CM same thickness as the tabs. Just spots of weld on ends and sides
did the trick because the bolts hold the centers together. A little
cleanup, primer, and matching paint made the fix almost invisible.
