I am a flyer not a builder and enjoy the MKIII Classic that I purchased with a 582 blue. But, I have a problem. EIS temps seem to run too high. Yesterday at 62 ambient I had a great flight (160degrees)but had it been 72 I would have been up at 180 with the light flashing. Seems that a lot of you are down south at that you probably only have two days a year down at 62--LOL. At 78 ambient, if I stay in the pattern, I will be at 180 half way into the downwind leg-5500rpm.
I have two radiators (VW?). They both measure roughly 12.5"x4.5"x1.25. Thermosat is set to open at 146. Coolant is protected down to 0F-- where I want it for the winter.
Do most of you have 3 radiators? Is anti-freeze ratio too high? What else to check?
Thanks for helping me-- on probably an obvious problem. Pics are attached.

Tom,
Can't help you with the temp problem. Looking at your photos, I noticed
that none of the hose clamps are safetied. It might be a good thing to do.
I have fried one engine for the lack of a hose clamp safety.

Tom O:
I don't know if this is your problem or not, but I noticed air in the vent
tube.
Been a while since I flew with a 582, but seems to me that venting all air
from the system was imperative to get the cooling system to operate
correctly. Of course, my 582 was much older than the blue head 582's. I
think there was a way to vent air from the cylinder head on the older 582's.
Back in the old days, 1993, Rotax recommended a 75 to 80% antifreeze
solution. First cross country flight to Lakeland my coolant temps were very
high. When I got to Lakeland I dumped the antifreeze and refilled with
straight distilled water. Coolant temps came down quite a bit.

Jack H:
How do you safety a hose clamp?
I have a multitude of hose clamps on my airplane, coolant, oil, and fuel
hoses. None of them are safetied. None have failed.
What kind of hose clamp failed on your engine? There are a multitude of
different makes and styles of hose clamps in use on airplanes, tractors,
trucks, cars, etc.

Tom,
I had the same problem with my 582-blue on hot days and long climbs. The
attached photos show what I did to eliminate the problem.

This may be working ok for you but I have two problems with it:
-It appears that it could be drawing the worm AWAY from the slots.
-I occasionally give a slight turn to all my hose clamps to
compensate for gradual shrinkage
of the rubber.
Not to be taken as a criticism, just my $.02

Well...........Now I have seen yours and Steven's photos of safety wiring a
hose clamp.
However, no one has answered my questions of why the requirement.
Never had nor heard of a hose clamp backing off or loosening up because the
screw backed out.
As Bob B stated, he goes back periodically and snugs up his hose clamps
because of shrinkage and compression. I do the same thing. If I had to cut
and resafety the clamps every time I checked them for snugness, it would
turn into a full time job.
Did the screw back out on your clamp you lost on your engine, or did you
forget to go back and snug them up periodically?

mkIII - Just got home from flying last light flight with James T and his
Son Patrick. Not a breath of wind.

Bob,
It appears that this may be the case, but if you look at how the clamp body
is constructed the distance that the screw can move away from the clamp
strap is fixed. The wire can not move the screw away from the slots.
When I clamp something new, a replacement hose, I do not safety wire the
clamp until the hose has been exposed to several thermal cycles. Then I
re-snug the clamp and safety it. I used to periodically check all clamps,
but I found that I had a tendency to give each one a little tweak and
eventually over tighten them.
