Listers,
I am having trouble getting my Garmin 420 to talk to my Trio autopilot. I can see that there is a low voltage on the rs232 output from the Garmin and I had my 295 talking to the Trio just fine, but these two act like strangers.
Documentation is rather light on both sides (the trio says it will autodetect and I do not have the install manual for the 420) so any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me you need to set your serial port output on your 420. Push your "enter" button on the 420 as you turn the unit on. This will access your setup page. The output on mine going to my GRT is "Aviation". The output from my serial GRT port to my Trio is set at "autopilot". I don't recall what the different settings are within the Garmin but if "autopilot" is an option give it a try and then go the baud rate page. I talked with Trio at the time and they said the buad rate couild be either 4800 or 9600. We'll see but the GPS is talking to my Trio. Save your setting by turning off your Garmin.
Good luck C
