I want to start introducing my kitfox to some turf runways so I walked into the Easton Wash. airstrip today.  I wanted to walk the runway and check the condition before I land there.



There are orange and white checkered markers midway on the edge of the field.  Do these mean something special except "Don't run into the trees".  I can't find anything about them anywhere.

I just looked in my Pilot's handbook of aeronautical knowledge book and it didn't show anything like that.  I'm just guessing C but if it's at midfield C it might be a way of saying  "if you're not down C go around"..  especially concidering the trees at the end.   Just a guess though C I just got back from an hour flying in the Avid a bit ago C and I'm in a good mood!!  Jim Chuk  Avid flying  Kitfox 4 building   Mn

In the UK any orange and white checkered markers like this would denote the boundary of an airfield or an area unfit for the movement of aircraft (such as a perimeter or service road). Given that this is stateside it is unusual to see them. Maybe they are just midpoint markers as the distance to the trees is difficult to judge in that photo and makes the distance remaining look shorter than it probably is. One might get a bit nervous with those trees rushing at you.

I would think that they are a locally devised "Go-No Go" marker.  The "rule -of-thumb" is that if you don't have 70% of your take off speed by the time you have used 50% of the available runway, abort the take off.  



I think that I would use those markers as a very visible indication to know if I was going to make a successful take off, or if I needed to give up.
