|
|
I recently accumulated 25 hours on my 701. As part of the first 25 hour
check, the 912S required an oil change. I followed the procedure to
change the oil and changed the oil filter. I had an A&P tell me you
probably don't want to check the filter element for metal on the first
oil change because typically you will find a lot of metal. However in
my case, I cut off the metal container and spread the filter element out
and found no metal shavings that I could see. If there was any metal in
that filter, these old eyes could not find it. I guess that is a good
thing.
Rotax's are expensive but at least in my case, it sure runs good.

Isn't there a magnetic plug in the side of the gear box that traps ferrous
metal particles? I believe it is to be inspected at some periodic interval.

According to Rotax, the mag plug is inspected before first engine start, within the next 5 hours of operation (one time), and thence every oil change. Reference SB-912-051.

P.S. - You're right Dan W., pretty expensive but they do run good!
