Hi Joe,
Aircraft Spruce carries a variety of insulating and soundproofing materials. In my 601 I used 'The Insulator' (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/insulator.php) and it seems to work well.

John, did you use the single foil sided or double sided?

Hi Gig,
I used the double sided material on the cabin side of the firewall.

Hi Joe,
I recently went thru the soundproofing process using the "fireproof
foam" from
Aircraft Spruce. Not a difficult job. My Journal Section 12 in October
covers
the experience rather well and the test that followed. I am very
satisfied having
done this, as it did quiet the plane considerably. Hit the link below
and spool down to
Oct 27 - 28 and you'll see a page or so of how I did it.

IMOO, I'd use nothing that would burn, smolder, smoke or give off toxic gasses.
