701'ers:

We had a 601 HDS and I really liked the header tank although at 15
gallons it was larger than necessary and left little room for the
other items required. At the beginning of the 701 building process I
was talked out of the header tank but have continued to consider it.
The recent discussion on fuel imbalance in the 701 tanks highlights a
big advantage of the header tank in its highly visible tube on the
instrument panel indicating how much fuel is left. Now Carl says:

"The biggest improvement I made to my 13 year old 701 fuel system was
to add an 8 liter collector tank.
Carl"

A 2 gallon tank is less than I would desire but would appreciate Carl
discussing his collector tank in greater detail.

I recently posted a discussion of my fuel system (14/06/0Cool. You should be
able to find it in the archives. Attached are photos of the collector tank
and its location on the rear fuselage side of the baggage compartment. 8
liters gives me 30 minutes emergency fuel to land. I'm on amphibs and
usually within gliding distance of an emergency landing area.
Hope that helps
Carl
