I am using a Jabiur 2200A in my Zenith CH701. I have been bothered by the fact that my prop spinner mounting plate was about 30 thousands out of round. Also the fact that when I installed the 6 nut plates to mount the spinner to the mounting plate I am sure that they were not anywhere close to being in a balanced configuration either.
I could see the spinner, at low speed, running slightly out of round. Knowing that his was probably causing some unbalance on the front crankshaft bearing, I played and played with the mounting plate and spinner trying to get it so it at least looked balanced when it ran. After several attempts I was still not able to get it where I wanted it to be. At various RPM settings I could actually feel the vibration that I though was probably the out of balance spinner.
Boy, have I ever found a solution, at least one that suits my situation. I did a bunch of research on mercury ring balancing and found that there is indeed a company that builds a prop mounted balancing system that uses a metal tube partially filled with mercury to off set any out of balance situation, within reason. It is the Propeller Balance Master, 6-hole prop, black anodized. SKU: N5190 $69.50 from The WagArrow Group.
It fit perfectly on the front of my prop, against the crush plate. It is about 7 inches in diameter so it easily fits inside the composite spinner. After about a minute run-up at 2000 RPM I noticed an immediate reduction in the vibration at various speeds that I was getting prior to the installation. Don't know if it will work this good for anyone else, but for the price I think it is well worth trying if you suspect any vibration from the prop and spinner assembly.
Incidentally, they call for it to be mounted at the rear of the propeller. I have a wood Sensenich prop which has the larger diameter inserts that go into the back of the prop so the 1/4 mounting bolts are only extended out the front of the prop where the crush plate mounts. My bolt mounting centers is exactly 100mm so the balance plate fit perfectly.
