I have a UHS fiberglass spinner on my plane. It really wobbles. This
is the second one. the one I had on my last engine wobbled also, just
not bad. This one is all over the place. I glassed up the holes and
re-drilled them, better but not acceptable. I put the backing plate in
the lathe and it is out of round. I also checked it with the caliber,
and it is just plain out of round. I called them and told them I tried
every thing I could think of, plus I told them I re-drilled the holes.
They said it didn't matter send it back and we will send you a new one.
I did.

Now I get this letter telling me "they find it hard to comprehend what
we are looking at" and they said they told me to send the spinner too.
Wrong, there was two us on the phone on my end and they did not. Now
they want me to send the cone and they will match it to a new backing
plate for $80. Plus I have already spent $17 shipping the backing plate
and it will cost me another $20 to ship the cone, they are in Canada.
Sounds like a rip-off to me. It would be cheaper to just buy a new
one. I told them to just send my backing plate back.

Anyway the point of this is that I am going to put a new page on my site
called "Who to do business with and Who you might want to avoid".
If any of you want to have any aircraft related business put on either
list, let me know. However, you have to take credit for it or I will
not list it. I need the name of the business, short explanation, and
your name. lrm(at)skyhawg.com.

This is the second one.

Larry:

Our first UHS spinner partially came off in turbulent air on our 601.
The second one came apart 5 minutes into its first flight and in the
process destroyed a nearly new Sensenich prop. A total loss of about
$900 due to a very large air bubble in the fiberglass. No
satisfaction from the UHS owner so my next spinner and prop was
purchased from Pete at USJabiru. No problems with it.

I am now getting a metal spinner from Pete for my 701.

I sent my backing plate to UHS at their request after I told them it
wobbled. They said they couldn't comprehend what the problem was. Any
idiot can take a caliber and see that it is a 10th of an inch out of
round. I mean like what else can you say, if it's out of round, it will
wobble. I told them to send it back, and they did. They won't answer
e-mails or phone calls. What a nice company.
I don't like getting screwed and I am not through with them. As soon as
I can I will make them a nice web page on my site.
Being a fiberglass guy for years I could tell them what caused it and
how to have it not happen again, but I wouldn't if they asked. I fixed
my backing plate, should have done it in the first place.
Take care, Larry N1345L

Did UHS cover the damages caused by the failure of their faulty part?

Thanks

Joe:

No, I got a reduced rate of $100 or thereabouts for the second spinner which lasted about 5 minutes. No response on my reporting the second failure.
