Kitfoxers, Any suggestions as to what paint I should use on the coolant tank and pipes? As they don't get really hot, I imagine I can use anything, but must be one that is better than most.

Sure- buff them up to a mirror finish then clear coat them with Sterling gloss. Magnificent.

I wouldn’t shine... Most heat is transferred through black... That’s heat in and heat out... if you paint it flat black it will help dissipate heat. Black is also a nice contrast colour.. if necessary chrome the cap.

I would use a zinc based primer, I think zinc phospate is the only one now available
with a high temperature finish coat paint. You don't need the high temperature
resistance but the continual warm up and cool down cycle might cause checking and
eventual cracking.

If they are easily removable, maybe consider getting them powder coated. That would
enable you to get a very nice shine and long life durability.

Black is the best radiative color but the surface area is so small, the heat loss
differential based on color will be neglible. So powder coating to match your paint
scheme on the plane would look real sharp to my eye.

Pat,
Really, any LP or urethane clear will do, but I've had
excellent results with Sterling and it's easy to get in San Diego,
being as it's used heavily in the yachting industry.

Guy C OK C Thanks  for the info. I took the old flat black off of the tank and it has been welded and soldered on to the point it would never look good polished. I put flat black back on it.
