Hi,
For anyone who is interested, I put together a web page showing
photos and video of tuft testing on the 601 HDS I fly. Last weekend
my dad and I finally got around to installing Stolspeed vortex
generators on the wings, so there are before and after photos. It is
mainly slow flight and approaches to the stall that are interesting
in the recordings.

(It sure is handy when trying to put things on the web that companies
like Google give away so much free server space, unlike my own ISP
that has never increased personal web space limits.)

The only other 601 tuft test pics I know of are from Viktor, a Swiss
pilot, who has some good pics and vid on the Stolspeed.com site.

I don't have any fancy flight test data nor a good feel - after one
flight - for how the handling has changed. But it is clear that the
airflow on the wing with VG's looks about the same as the no-VG wing
at 10 mph higher.

At the bottom end of the airspeed indicator, with indicated speeds
normally inaccurate on light aircraft, one can't read much into the
numbers. It used to be that in slow flight with the power back we
could get the indicated airspeed slightly below 40 mph before all the
oil canning and wing rock and stall break set in. Now we can fly
smoothly showing a ridiculous and inaccurate 30 mph before things get
squirrely.

Whether the VG's are worthwhile over all is still to be determined,
but they certainly have some effect in keeping the air attached to the wing.
