Russ reminded me of an incident I had about 25 years ago while driving truck through Scranton, Pa. At 2am I was alone on I-84, and descending into a bowl shaped area at highway speeds. It was crystal clear. All of a sudden it instantly turned to very dense fog, and visibility went to about 3 feet. I had to slow to a crawl and was out of it in about 5 minutes. I heard later that this phenomenon is common on runways, and the warm exhaust from a landing aircraft can trigger the effect. Matching dew point and temperature. Never saw it before or since, and once was enough.
