Hi Gang
I happened to come across this old video of Bob Hoover in action.
This is not Kolb related...but...I thought it was worth sharing it with everyone....don't try this while flying your Kolb's Smile

If you never saw him do his routine in his old P51, in person, you have missed a piece of aviation airshow history.

Bill,

Great clip of the amazing Bob Hoover!

My first personal witness of Hoover's prowess was at Oshkosh (where else) after they finally reinstated his flight privileges (199? something or other). Seeing him fly the twin commander in his Energy Conservation routine was nothing short of amazing. Some say there should have been background music playing for effect, but I disagree... the music to me was the sound the wind made crossing his wings as he swooped by the flight line... a stunning display of what can be done with an airplane when its flown with a natural touch. Bob sure had that. No telling what he could have done with our little Kolbs!

Yep,
I saw Robert A. (Bob) Hoover at a York, Pa. air show in "Ole Yeller"
when he accidentally took out a major power line with his landing
gear on a low level sneak in pass.

Bob then did a slow pass while the tower did a visual check to see if
there was any obvious damage to the gear, he then came around and
landed, walked around the plane for a "look see" and took off again
and finished his routine.

Ole Yeller must have been one tough old bird.

Ole HOOVER was a tough old bird! I saw him at Reading PA when he took
out a powerline with a wingtip, in a river valley.
No damage, flew next shows flawlessly.
