I can't help but marvel at how well I'm getting to know every square
inch of my little bird as I sand away everything which doesn't look
like a Europa...
I tip my hat to all who've been here...

Hi! Fred.
I don't consider you've really got used to it until you've fallen asleep
during sanding !(sweet dreams!)

Yes, Fred
Ivan Shaw described this as soul destroying. You have to build the classic
wings to really enjoy it.
I have talked to Alex, and he has sorted his problems and has been flying.
Right now he has a health problem
(and a snow problem), but hopes to overcome it in due course.
Have fun.
Peter

Greetings Fred.
Just this weekend I have completed the filler sanding all of my flying surfaces. In fact I have them all back in my curing oven as I type. 12 hours at 50 centigrade.
I can tell you that this part of the build is my least favorite. So cumbersome was the process of filling and sanding, I actually took a break from project the for a number of months. Thankfully my oldest son Brennan inspired me to get back to work. We both went after it with 1/3 sheet size sanders and completed the mess I had started.
Those that make their trade in the auto body business certainly have my respect. I can tell you that I do not look forward to the complete sanding of the aircraft before primer and paint. Thankfully I'm still far off from that event. I might just have to hire out that job!

Hi Brian and all,
Shamefully i must admit that i took the flying surfaces, all of them to Nev's workshop, with the idea that he could teach me the job. Well, in short, it ended that he and mostly Martin did most of the work. I just could not do it good enough. Later i run into a guy looking for a job, and hired him to do the filling and sanding work on the rest of the plane. My deepest respect for those who did that part of the project themselves. The moral of this reply: Look for help if needed, instead of letting the build come to a halt.
Regards,
Jos Okhuijsen

Hi all,
Slightly off topic, but I am curious as to what most people did for
the there final sanding. I used 400 grit, and the final paint finish
was nice, although I noticed over time that sanding marks came
through.
Someone suggested to me that I should use 600 grit, but I wondered if
this would cause paint adhesion issues.

Hi Mate
|
in my own humble OP nothing wrong with sanding lines as long as they are
in line with the boundary layer flow
You could put some dirty oil over the whole airframe, go flow for half
an hour at the best cruise speed, take pictures then sand all over with
1200 grit in those directions. You might get a few extra knots cruise
speed. (probably would imho) More or less what the glider
fundamentalists do.
