It has been a long time, but somebody mentioned a "fix" for the "It don't fit" problem.
As I recall, the one-piece strut was cut in half with the thinest hacksaw blade available, then the ends were fitted top and bottom to the wing and fuselage. A "sleeve" about 300mm long was used to connect the two loose ends. With the sleeve in place you simply drill through the sleeve & strut to insert the AN-3 bolts. Also seems that there was mention of allowing for the thickness to the hacksaw blade when drilling the hole at the gear-attach point. This would be determined by the string stretched tip-to-tip.
This somewhat resembles the older two-piece strut, except that four bolts are required, and it doesn't look so great.
Only positive aspect of this approach may be that the location of the splice bolts might also serve as points to anchor the jury struts. Makes measuring an issue in order to get splice bolts and jury strut brackets oriented correctly on the strut. Probably more hassle than it is worth.
I don't see any reason the splices couldn't go at the bottom end of the strut, near the gear.
Regards to all.
