Fellow enthusiasts, I have for some time been reading, absorbing and learing from my esteemed colleagues. I am posting a question for the first time. My 701 has an ASI which underreads by approximately 12 knots. Both the Pitot and Static vent are sited 2/3 up the pilot side leading wing strut. I know there was some discussion on how to resolve, but for the life of me cannot find the information, so beggin your patience I wonder if smeone will be kind enough to remind me how to overcome this underread problem. Thanks for your patience
Ric

Hi Ric. I have pretty well the same problem. I have a Dynon 180 EFIS with the dual pitot tube AOA and my airspeed reads about 8 knots slow. My dual static source is on the right and left sides of the fuselage at the front of the cabin. I've tried rezeroing the ASI as per Dynon's instruction but haven't noted any change.
When I'm flying along I get the impression that the pitot tube is not exactly parallell to the horizon, but is a bit "nose up" with reference to the horizon. I've gone over the tubing itself and haven't found any kinked or otherwise obstructed areas.
Wonder if your ASI is a conventional round gauge or a Dynon?

Ric,
The problem is with the static line not the pitot. Initially my single static line ended inside the leading edge of the wing at about the same position that you have yours. We both found out that this does not work. I found that my error increased with the angles of attack. It was really upsetting to see a zero airspeed indication just before touch-down when I was shooting STOL landings. I think this occurred because there is an opening under the leading edge of the wing at the forward attachment point that probably scoops up air at high angles of attack that was picked up by the static line.

So... I experimented with the position of the static line, I tried ending it inside the cabin but it still read low. Then I put the endings outside each side of the cabin below the doors (better but still off). Finally I looked at what others has done and moved the two endings about two feet behind the doors just under the baggage compartment outside the cabin. The results now are in sync with the GPS at any airspeed.

Wow, thanks for the info Les! Are those static ports on the bottom or the side of the airplane? I take it the side! What you are describing is exactly what my plane is doing! Thanks

All,
Here is a couple of pictures I took of 701ZB, when I was out in Quality Sports in Cloverdale, CA.
The pictures show his just a little bit behind the baggage rivet line. Can not remember the gentleman's name, but he did point the static port out to me and said he has good luck with it. He flies with a Flightdeck D-180 (Dynon)

Just FYI

All, did the pictures of the static port location come thru?
I didn't even see my reply come through. This is the first response I saw come back, and I only assumed that, because of the 701ZB register, (thanks Craig)
