Hi! All DOTHer's and prospectives..
As Paddy indicated yesterday's DOTH turned into an ordeal due to the weather
advancing way ahead of initial forecasts. Those who believed the original
predictions were met by snow and sleet in much more abundance than we had
when north of the Arctic Circle in June !
This brings me to remember that when Bryan Allsop and I first conceived the
DOTH I had suggested some kind of spontaneous DOTH with SAME DAY initiation
where the guy who "had the baton" would call all those who had registered an
interest by 'phone. In the winter season this would be safer and lead to
happier flying conditions in that today being a glorious day wouldn't be
wasted.
Has anyone any suggestions ? Don't volunteer me for the baton since I'm
about to ground G-PTAG for winter "titivation" service and the confounded
Mode S .

Hi! Paddy
No problems no one can be right all the time and in my opinion the weather
forecasts were way out. Certainly I wouldn't have gone if I'd realized
there would be snow and low cloud base.
Hope your trip to OZ is more successful...Have a great time.
Best regards

Bob, I feel that the system works pretty well as it is. The weather on
Tuesday shouldn't have come as a great surprise to anyone - Paddy had it
worked out some days before, and probably would not have suggested that day
unless he had been disappearing abroad the next, and in any case it would
be a pity if we didn't occasionally fly in something other than CavOK! But
also in practical terms there is much to be said for having at least one
day's notice to get the pink chitty organised. Regards, David Joyce, G-XSDJ

Hi! David.
I know that generally "practice makes perfect" but I prefer to stick
with flying to enjoy it and Tuesday was not so.
I understand that the Doths as currently worked seem to be OK. However
I'm confident that more would "rise to the occasion" when given the
chance of flying in such as yesterday's weather.
In my case "pink chitty's are negotiated by a simple statement that
"I'll be flying one day next week" I don't have to define which day !
So in my mind having "CALLED A DOTH FOR NEXT WEEK AND DECLARED THE
DESTINATION" I WOULD EXPECT THOSE PREPARED TO COMMIT TO CONTACT ME WITH
PHONE NUMBERS TO ENABLE ME TO MAKE A SPONTANEOUS PHONE CALL THE NIGHT
BEFORE OR EVEN THE MORNING OF THE ACTUAL DAY"
I CAN SEE THAT THIS IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN THE PRESENT SYSTEM
and it may interfere with such as golfing commitments!
REGARDS

Hi All
Seems to me that both DOTH's work. Personally, because of my business
commitments, I am often unable to decide what to do until the actual day but
where 24 hour notice is available I can at least kinda plan my work.
DOTH's are a unique and valuable treat for Europa flyers retired or not,
chitty needers or not and should be nurtured as best we can. It's always
great to meet with such a wonderful mixed bag of flyers ( and Paddy!!).
Cheers

Hi! Mike
“Pink Chitty’s” are the authorization note that pilots “who respect their wives wishes” have to obtain before taking leave to go flying !
They can use up valuable weather options since the wives also prefer to go on land based trips in fine weather rather than crappy flying weather!
I’m all for give and take on this one but I always presume she would prefer I came home safely on a fine day rather than not at all on a pissing wet day !
After all even on a wet day exciting things to do can be found on land INSIDE !
I think “Green Chitty’s” are similar but apply to golfing buffs.
The safe option for them (if they are fliers) is to apply for both simultaneously in case the WX turns out to be suitable for flying as well as golfing !
The only passive way to avoid these licence requirements is to find a flying, golfing woman and marry her then you will be at war which sport you do on any day and if it is flying be sure to have two single seat planes or you will finish up fighting who has the P1 privileges!
This type of woman is best found by observing the flying wives of other pilots and asking them if they have an unmarried SISTER ! (Unless you are a complete arse and steal the other pilots wife?)
